Note: Error logs are typically requested by our Support team when there is a technical issue with Grammarly for Windows and Mac. If you experience a technical issue, please check out this section of our Knowledge Base first.
- Exit the app that's causing the issue.
- Right-click on the Grammarly icon in the system tray and select Settings.
- Click anywhere on the window that opens next, type GRA while pressing and holding the Ctrl key on your keyboard.
- You should then see the Grammarly service window. Click Turn On Logs, and don't close the service window for now:
- Open the app or website where the issue occurs and type a few words or sentences to reproduce that issue.
- Go back to the service window and click Turn Off Logs.
- Select the Open User Setting Folder button to open the Logs folder:
- Send the Grammarly.Desktop.txt file to us in a support ticket.
Note: The Grammarly.Desktop.txt file may contain the text you've typed or the name of the application you've opened. We recommend that you do not type sensitive information while logs are enabled. Please turn off logs in the service window and delete the Grammarly.Desktop.txt file after sending it to us.
First, activate logging for Grammarly for Mac:
- Quit Grammarly for Mac by clicking on the Grammarly button in the menu bar and selecting Quit.
- Open the Terminal application, copy and paste the following string, and press Enter:
defaults write com.grammarly.ProjectLlama LogVerbosity -int 5
Then, reproduce the issue and retrieve logs:
- To run and configure the Console application, go to Menu > Action and select Include Info Messages and Include Debug Messages.
- Activate your Mac device in the left panel of the application and press Start Streaming.
- Launch Grammarly Desktop and try to accept a suggestion in the app or on the website where the issue occurs.
- Switch to the Console application and filter logs with Grammarly Desktop.
- Select all logs by pressing the Command+A keys and copy them by pressing Command+C.
- Paste the copied data into any text editor and save the file.
- Send the file with logs to us in a support ticket.
Once that’s done, you can deactivate logging:
- Quit Grammarly for Mac by clicking the Grammarly button in the menu bar and selecting Quit.
- Open the Terminal application, copy and paste the following string, and press Enter:
defaults delete com.grammarly.ProjectLlama LogVerbosity
