I see the “Needs additional setup” notification next to the Grammarly widget

This notification most commonly appears on devices running Android 10–12, where Grammarly needs to enable compatibility mode to work correctly. To resolve this issue, try the instructions below.

Step 1: Follow the in-app setup

Tap the notification and follow the on-screen instructions. This should complete the setup automatically. Once complete, check whether the notification has disappeared and that Grammarly is working correctly.

Step 2: Check accessibility and battery permissions

If tapping the notification didn’t help, the issue may be related to accessibility or battery permissions on your device. To resolve this, follow the instructions below for your device.

Still not working?

If none of the steps above resolved the issue, please contact Support and include the following information:

  • Confirm whether you’ve tried all the steps above.
  • Specify whether Grammarly doesn’t work properly everywhere or in one specific app.

This will help our team investigate the issue more quickly.
