To remove a word from your personal dictionary, locate the word you’d like to delete and swipe to the left until the red Delete button appears. Then, tap the Delete button to remove the word.

Smart Formatting

Smart Formatting helps you write numbers, measurements, and expressions more easily. As you type, the Grammarly Keyboard recognizes things like math, units, long numbers, phone numbers, and times, and offers a ready-to-use result or a cleaner format right in the suggestion bar. Nothing changes automatically — you can tap a suggestion to apply it.

Turn Smart Formatting on or off

  1. Open the Grammarly app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Keyboard tab, then tap Smart Formatting.
  3. Turn each option on or off. They’re all on by default, so you can keep the ones you find useful and switch off the rest.

What each setting does

  • Show Math Results: Calculates arithmetic expressions and offers the result.
  • Show Unit Conversions: Converts measurements to equivalent values in other units.
  • Show Number Formatting: Suggests readable formatting for long numbers and ratios.
  • Show Phone Number Formatting: Applies standard formatting to phone numbers.
  • Show Time Conversions: Converts between 12-hour and 24-hour time.

Smart Formatting in action

Here are a few examples of what you’ll see in the suggestion bar as you type:

To use a suggestion, just tap it in the bar, and it will replace what you typed. If you’d rather keep your original text, keep typing, and the suggestion will disappear.

Don’t see the suggestions you expect? Make sure the Grammarly Keyboard is enabled on your iPhone (SettingsGeneralKeyboardKeyboards), and that the setting you want is turned on under KeyboardSmart Formatting.
