Important: This is currently available as a beta feature to some users on Grammarly for Mac.
Grammarly’s AI Chat brings generative AI directly into your workflow—no matter where you’re working. It interacts in a conversational way to answer questions, help with tasks, provide recommendations, create written drafts, and more. To start using our AI Chat, click the Grammarly icon in the menu bar and then click Start AI Chat (BETA):
You can use up to 1,000 prompts per day with AI Chat. Each prompt is a chance to get instant feedback or help. If you hit your daily limit, you can continue using the feature the next day.
How to use
Right after opening AI Chat, you can enter your prompt directly into the text field on the side of your screen:
If you’re currently working on a specific task, Grammarly will use context from your active window to make its responses more relevant and personalized.
You can change the context being used by clicking Attach and selecting a different window.
Note: Window awareness doesn’t currently support Google Docs and Google Slides. However, if you select text in a current document while the AI assistant is open, the assistant can use that text for ideation.
How to customize AI Chat
Grammarly will auto-apply a writing style based on the context of your content. You can change this style by choosing from four default styles or uploading a writing sample of your own to create a custom style.
Note: We don’t currently offer an option to save custom writing styles.
To change the writing style, navigate to the style options in the AI Chat interface and choose your preferred style.
When Grammarly generates the text you requested or enhances the existing text, Grammarly will present you with up to three different output options based on your prompts, thanks to the Ideation Tabs feature.
This allows you to choose the response that best fits your needs, whether it’s accepting, declining, or asking for more information.
You can also pin the AI chat to the side of your screen by clicking the Grammarly icon in the menu bar and choosing Show Docked Chat:
