Grammarly Answers Reputation and Degree System is a user-ranking system aimed at encouraging high-quality participation on the site. This system is designed to make it easier for members of the community to identify high-quality contributors and to become recognised participants on the forum. We’ve broken this into two parts: ‘Reputation Points’ and ‘Degree Ranking’.

Reputation Points

All participants on Grammarly Answers will start with 1 reputation point (rep point). Additional rep points will be awarded points for contributions to the site. High-quality contributions, as determined by the community, will be awarded more points, while low-quality contributions will receive less or even remove rep points from a user’s account. Below are the point values awarded for various actions on the forum:

  • Every user starts with 1 rep point.
  • User’s question is upvoted, user receives +5 rep points
  • User ‘s question is downvoted, user receives -2 rep points
  • User’s answer is upvoted, user receives +10 rep points
  • User’s answer is downvoted, user receives -10 rep points
  • User’s answer selected as Best Answer, user receives +15 rep points
  • User selects Best Answer for his question, user receives +2 rep points (only if he does not answer his own question).

When user’s cancel actions on the forum the points awarded for those actions are removed. For example, is a user selects answer #100 as the Best Answer. The user will receive +2 rep points and the answer's author will receive +15 rep points. If the user cancels the Best Answer, the user will receive -2 rep points and the answer's author, -15 rep points. Reputation points will never go below 1.

Reputation points are used to determine the Degree Ranking of all users.

Degree Ranking

The Degree Rankings are classified according to the number of Reputation Points a user has earned. There are four different degrees with differing incentives at each level. Details are listed below.

New Member -- 1 - 99 rep points
This is a newly registered Grammarly Answers user.

Contributor -- 100 - 999 rep points

Expert -- 1,000 - 9,999 rep points
These are our active community members.

Grammarly Fellow -- 10,000+ rep points
Fellows are the long-term active members. Users will also be featured on a special biography page for added recognition throughout the community.

I'm the "new-kid-on-the-block" when it comes to 1) rules, 2) correct procedures, 3) reputation and 4) degree points. Knowing how numbers 3 and 4 works, saves me the time and embarrassments asking these questions on Grammarly's main page, or via the "contact us" link.

I've oft joined other sites, but had quite a bit of difficulty, trying to maneuver through these sites, a blind soul walking, bumping, and falling down their virtual labyrinth, looking for even simple answers. Grammarly  appears to be a simple and straight-forward site, and for that, I say thank you.

Respectfully, H. A. McRay, pen name for Bob "Cookie" Vanduren.

What a great website and forum.  I happened to come upon this for a Masters assignment  - as we were asked to review different 'plagiarism' tools to use.  I love that this is here for both students and academics.  Thanks and hope to afford the full version and convince my university department to look into it too!

I am currently using a grammar-correction software package which is only a little better than the spell checker/thesaurus in MS Word.  There are some bothersome things about it also.  There are constant ads from the company wanting you to upgrade to the later or more expensive version.  You are “nickel and dimed to death” to acquire software with more advanced editing features. I don't like all of the interruptions when I am writing or editing.  Also, (and this is the most annoying part) I can only use it on the machine it was downloaded to, or on the machine I loaded the CD.  Global use of this software is the selling point for me!  I can use it anywhere I can access my account – wonderful!!!
